Sin Barreras is a nonprofit organization that supports the Latinx community of Charlottesville. Our CSSC chapter has created a service project to partner with their organization as they continue to serve this population through the COVID19 pandemic. Our volunteers created an amazon registry to purchase supplies that Sin Barreras urgently needs including baby supplies, adult hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, and more.
The Sin Barreras Support Team makes supply drops with packages for 25 families as often as possible. Each bag contains items specified by Sin Barreras. Some examples of items include diapers, baby powder, household cleaner, laundry detergent, feminine products, wipes, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, dish soap, and $100 Walmart gift cards. Diapers and other baby supplies are donated to Sin Barreras headquarters for members of the community to pick up as needed. Each supply drop is estimated to cost $3,900 for all supplies and gift cards. The Sin Barreras Support Team has completed three supply drops thus far, and is working hard to fundraise for these families by promoting the amazon registry with the items that we need, and through gofundme and venmo to purchase the gift cards for families.
In the first two weeks of its creation, the CSSC Sin Barreras Team raised over $12,000 in donations and supplies for these families. Since then, volunteers have raised over $1,500 which was donated to two local families who were in need of assistance paying rent for the month of August. Our team accomplished this wonderful goal through a zoom bingo fundraiser, where local businesses such as Grit and Cville Skin & Laser generously donated prizes, and by selling stickers created by Sin Barreras volunteer, Bella Golden. If you’re interested in purchasing a sticker to support Sin Barreras for a donation of $3 or more, email Jeannie Taylor at and we will get one mailed to you! At the time this article was updated, the Sin Barreras Team had reached almost $18,000 in monetary and in-kind donations.
