Participate or Become a Facilitator for Virtual Leadership, Self Care, and Bonding Groups

NAMI On Grounds is an organization dedicated towards uplifting and sharing different perspectives related to mental health. Their organization is a UVA CIO (Contracted Independent Organization) that focuses on advocacy, education, and support work. An integral part of their mission is representing various experiences and to take an intersectional approach to mental health journeys. I would like to give a special thanks to Grace Leffler, a wonderful a representative of NAMI on Grounds, for connecting CSSC and NAMI in order for me to share the following with you.

NAMI at UVA is partnering up with NAMI Virginia and Youth Move to do a bi-weekly series for individuals with lived experiences of mental health. NAMI is looking for facilitators and participants. You do not have to lead each session; we will work with you according to your schedule! There are three types of programs that you can lead/participate in:

  1. Stay in and Stay Busy (every other week, 7 PM - 8 PM) - NAMI Virginia’s Stay-In & Stay Busy is a weekly 45-minute group led by peers, supportive organizations, professionals and/or NAMI VA Staff. This event is held on Zoom and focuses on creative ways to make a difference during social distancing while sharpening your own personal leadership approach in a safe environment with your peers. Topics include but are not limited to, using your lived experience, remote volunteer projects, community engagement, and leadership.

  2. Film and Friends (weekly, Fridays from 7 PM - 9 PM) - This is a shared movie watching experience and a chance for young adults to relax and have fun while viewing a film with individuals who share similar lived experiences with mental health and other systems.

  3. Guided Self Care (every other Monday, 7-8 pm) - A twice monthly, one-hour long activity based group for both YA and Youth. Facilitators will guide the group through a new self-care practice as the participants partake in the practice. During the final 20 minutes, the group will discuss how they felt during the practice and how their self-care routine has gone over the previous week. Registration will be required and it will be held on Zoom.

Become a facilitator by filling out this short information sheet! Check out previous sessions by liking Youth Move’s Facebook page. If you would rather simply participate in these sessions, register for one of our programs on this site!
